New Boston Globe Ideas lead story on tech addiction in 2021 and beyond
What kind of relationship with technology do we want, once basic safety no longer requires us to be extremely online?
I'm delighted to share a new piece, in print on Sunday as the centerpiece or lead story of The Boston Globe's "Ideas" section. In part, it’s a review of my experiments with two fascinating new anti-distraction devices, a tablet and a phone you may not have seen or heard of yet. It's also a deeply personal and vulnerable exploration of one of the most painful experiences of my life. Paradoxically, then, it gave me joy to write this essay — to explore, publicly, something that I've avoided fully dealing with, for years. Maybe you’ll relate to the core question: What kind of relationship with tech do we want in 2021 and beyond?
I'd be honored if you'd share the piece on Twitter, and while obviously I haven’t done much with this Substack newsletter yet, if you encourage friends to join it I’ll try to get started in earnest. There is some great backstory to this Globe piece that I’d love to share with subscribers only!
